Jane Halton specialises in finance, investment and healthcare. Jane formerly served on the National COVID-19 Coordination Commission that coordinated advice to government on actions to anticipate and mitigate the social and economic effects of the global coronavirus pandemic.
Her 33-year career in the public service included nearly 15 years as Secretary of the Australian Department of Finance. Jane was also Secretary of the Department of Health and Ageing and Deputy Secretary of the Department of Premier and Cabinet. As Finance Secretary, Jane was responsible for delivering the budget, managing the government’s non-defence domestic property portfolio, key assets and sales as well as the financial performance framework for government agencies.
Jane has extensive experience in finance, insurance, risk management, information technology, human resources, health and ageing, sport, and public policy, as well as significant international experience. Jane has held numerous high-level international appointments including the Executive Board of the World Health Organization (2004–2007), President of the World Health Assembly (2007), Chair of the Executive Board of WHO, and Chair of the OECD Health Committee (2007–2012). Jane was awarded the Public Service Medal in 2002, the Centenary Medal in 2003, and the Geneva Health Prize in 2013.
