Michael has worked for more than 14 years at senior levels within Federal and State Labor Governments.  He served as Chief of Staff to then Deputy Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for six years, as Chief of Staff to Treasurer of Queensland Cameron Dick and held a similar role with then NSW Deputy Premier Andrew Refshauge.

As the Chief of Staff to the Leader of the House in the minority Gillard Government, Michael has a comprehensive understanding of parliamentary procedure and a demonstrated ability to work with diverse political stakeholders.  He also has extensive experience in policy areas such as Transport, Infrastructure, Communications, Treasury, Health and Education and retains excellent networks within both Federal and State ALP. 

After leaving Government, Michael spent more than three years as the Group Head of Government and Industry Affairs at Westpac, advising the Board and Senior Management on legislative changes as well as reputational risks facing the industry.
